Alexa will be able to control Nest and Honeywell thermostats this month

Last month, Ecobee3 became the first smart thermostat compatible with Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant. Now, along with the announcement of the new Amazon Tap and Echo Dot, Amazon has revealed that Alexa will gain compatibility with Nest and Honeywell thermostats later this month. It’s been possible to control smart thermostats like the Nest with the Amazon Echo and Fire TV indirectly through an IFTTT recipe for some time, but the method has always been missing key components to make it a viable solution. With built-in support added by Amazon, you’ll soon be able to control most aspects of these smart thermostats with your voice.

for 2-300 bucks a piece, i’ll stick to getting off my fat ass for a while

Your missing the point entirely, I just purchased the Ecobee 3 a few months ago to replace my Honeywell stat and have saved over $15/month. The combination automatic comfort settings via the follow me feature / auto home away modes and setpoint tweaks enabled by the smart IQ data portal will save you money while increasing comfort. At less than a (2) year payback, it’s one of the better smart home decisions you can make.

I got an email from sensi saying it will also control the sensi thermostat.

Too late, bought the ecobee3 already and after a week they updated it. Past the return date. Not only that but the remote sensors on the Ecobee are great.
