Alexa on the Amazon Echo can now tell you about local movies and showtimes

You can now ask Alexa on the Amazon Echo for information about movies playing in theaters near you. The new ability is unfortunately not available on the Fire TV yet, but you can say “Alexa, what movies are playing?” and the Echo will respond with a list of movies playing near your location. You can add “…in [city]?” to get information about movies in a city other than the one you’ve configured as your home. If you want to only hear movies of a certain genre, simply say “Alexa, what [genre] movies are playing?” Lastly, you can narrow down you request to a specific time by saying “Alexa, what movies are playing between [timeframe]?” Once you know the movie you’re interested in, you can ask “Alexa, what time is [movie title] playing?” to hear the showtimes for a specific movie. If you want to hear about a movie, ask “Alexa, tell me about the movie [movie title]?” and Alexa will tell you the movie’s director, stars, and genre, as well as a short description.
