Alexa and Echo devices are coming to hotels thanks to Alexa for Hospitality

Amazon has announced service that helps hotels, vacation rentals, and other locations deploy Alexa and Echo devices at scale. Alexa for Hospitality allows the voice assistant to be customized for each location. Guests will be able to ask for things like hotel information, order room service, request housekeeping, and control smart devices like lights and thermostats. It also appears as though there will be a way for guests to temporarily login to their hotel room’s Alexa device in order to access their music, make phone calls, and other personal Alexa functions. Select Marriott Hotels, Westin Hotels & Resorts, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, Aloft Hotels, and Autograph Collection Hotels are already on board and will deploy Alexa devices starting this summer.

Will there be some sort of temporary password control for purchases linked to your room during your stay? I envision:

    CHILD: “Alexa I’m hungry”
ALEXA: “ok, shall I order room service you?”
CHILD: “yes, I’ll have the prime rib”
ALEXA: “ok, $74.99 has just been charged to your account!”

I guess why would it be any different than the Amazon system that already exists – a code needed to order? The skill to pay your Amazon store card with Alexa (very slick works well) requires a code, I use a code to pay for items I order with Alexa.

Great move for Amazon. It potentially makes a hotel a choice for someone over another one, and gives exposure to Alexa to more people that otherwise have not used it. I honestly had thought of something like this when the skill came out that you could make your own question/answer.
Using it to get to your own music and services is definitely something that I would look for if choosing between hotels.
